the encouragement of Jesus’ humble birth

The One who needs nothing became needy. The One who created all things became helpless and dependent. And yet, at the same time, he upheld the universe by his powerful word.

His first bed was a feeding trough. He was not born in a palace, he wasn’t even born in a stable. Tradition holds that it was a cave. It may have been.

But these humble circumstances ought to give us great encouragement.

None of us feels remarkable or special. But, Jesus sees, in you, a fitting vessel to dwell. He sees someone he can make like himself. He sees someone that he can, indeed, save.
